It’s strange to think that somehow ambition or drive is the only way to continue reinventing your freshness. It’s not passive- it’s a very strong position to be in.
Your failures are okay too. I used to be really hard on myself if I thought I wasn’t accomplishing something or reaching a certain level. Be with your failures. They’re just as educational and just as opening to the process as the success is.
I don’t know any form of art or entertainment that can affect people the way movies can. I know it sounds ridiculous, but they can change your world. They can change your views.
Look, I’m in a business where you’ve got to sell tickets. But, my God, I would not be able to look at myself in the mirror if I felt strongly about something and didn’t speak up. I think it’s about how you speak up. We’re allowed to disagree. If I state my case and people don’t want to go see my movies as a result, I’m okay with that.
